Therapeutic ultrasound is the preferred method of rehabilitation for most soft tissues, muscle spasms, and joints. This method differs from a traditional ultrasound, but it is not used to screen the body internally – despite having a comparable name.
What is Therapeutic Ultrasound?
The ultrasound produces small sound waves at an incredibly high frequency, far out of the range of human hearing. Affected areas such as joints and soft tissues benefit from the increased blood flow provided by the ultrasound. The increased blood flow helps reduce pain, spasms, and stiffness.
How Does Therapeutic Ultrasound Work?
Ultrasound Therapy is administered in a very similar way to a classic ultrasound, despite having different goals and effects.
A hypersonic wave-emitting device is passed over the patient’s skin and around the injured area. Ultrasound gel is aptly applied before the process begins to help reduce friction as the device comes in contact with the skin to allow a better transmission.
Therapeutic ultrasound has been proven to heal the body at the most basic cellular level. We encourage you to reach out to our office with any questions regarding how this therapeutic approach, or any of our other services may be right for you.
